Whoever says they can't afford healthy food...

(source)

I hear this over and over again. "I would love to eat healthier, but I can can't afford it." This infographic is pretty damn accurate. So all of you who think you can't do it... think again. If you use whole foods like in the bottom example you will be surprised at how far they stretch (and how good they make you feel).

Not to mention, when you eat healthier overall you get sick less which is another expense that people don't factor into the cost of food and living. Eating healthy now is way cheaper than having a chronic disease later on in life.
Who's going to start eating healthier?

  1. Thank you for posting this! Unfortunately, it's not just the cost of the materials, it's also the cost of the tiem to prepare the meal. I wish people would get more familiar with alternative cooking methods (I'm looking at you, slow cooker!).

    1. You are exactly right! It was a huge shift for me to be able to stop and realize that it is more important to take the time and feed myself properly than it was to blow through my never ending to-do list everyday.

  2. What about those of us who are so poor we can only afford to eat Ramen Noodles and cans of cheap tuna? I'm talking about myself here when I was in college. I never eat out (I couldn't afford it). I also don't eat healthy because I can't afford it. It's cheaper to eat Ramen, cheap hot dogs, and Hamburger helper. Not healthy at all but what if you never eat out and that's all you can afford? Just because someone eats unhealthy doesn't mean they are eating fast food.

    1. I completely understand not affording it or thinking you cannot afford it. It is important to me to do what I can when I can. Sometimes I can't afford the weird/frivilous healthy foods I would like to buy, so I just buy what's on sale. And if you can't afford it now but it's important to you, then make it a goal to try to afford it in the future! If it's not a goal, then don't worry about it!
